Are you newly divorced or separated but you feel that you're ready to get back to the dating scene? No matter how little or how much time had passed since your last relationship, you have to be ready about what people would say. Some might think you're dating too soon. Others might think you're not yet ready. What they say shouldn't matter though. If you truly think you're ready to date then go ahead and give it a try.
If you use the dating rules below, you can also be sure that none of your dates will be awkward and marred by your last breakup.
Don't be in a hurry.
It's great that you're ready to date and all, but you need not rush out of your home and date the first guy who asks you out. As a newly divorced or separated woman, don't you think you owe it to yourself to take better care of your heart this time?
Go out. Have fun. Meet other guys. Doing all those things is completely fine and will help you move on without entering any semi-serious or permanent relationship that could simply be a rebound thing.
Be upfront about your status.
When a guy asks you out, be honest and let him know that you're newly divorced or separated. This way, you know where both of you stand. If he still asks you out then you'll know it's because he truly does want to know you better and he doesn't care about your past relationship.
Choose with care.
A lot of first post-divorce or post-separation dates end up in discord because both parties were clearly unsuitable. Doing a trial-by-error experiment with dating may work in some cases but not if you're newly divorced or separated. At this stage, you could still be overly sensitive and vulnerable because of the past, and you'll just end up hurting yourself more when you're forcing yourself to date someone you're not really attracted to and vice versa.
Be selective. Every woman has the right to be, regardless of whether they're newly divorced or separated.
Treat yourself with a makeover session.
You don't have to change the color of your hair or undergo liposuction. But you should also pamper yourself as this will help you feel better about yourself. When you're newly divorced or separated, it's easy to feel unattractive and unwanted. But if you give yourself a new haircut, wear a new beautiful dress and treat yourself with a day at the spa, your reflection on the mirror will convince you otherwise.
And then you'll have more confidence to meet your date.
Be ready to talk about the past.
As someone who's newly divorced or separated, you may still find it awkward to talk about what happened with another guy. But even if your date respects and understands this, there will come a time that such a topic would inadvertently come up. You have to be ready for that moment. If you're ready to date other guys then you should at least be ready as well to discuss what happened in your past relationship.
